🧭 MTT in November: Late Reg and Short Stacks 🎯

Late registration often means you sit with 20–30 bb and blinds rising. The edge comes from clean preflop decisions and disciplined postflop plans. Here is a fast, copy-ready checklist you can use tonight.

🎛️ Preflop Cheatsheet

  • Open sizes: 2–2.2 bb from all positions. Keep sizing stable to hide strength.
  • Versus opens: prefer 3-bet jam at 20–25 bb with hands that hate calling multiway (AQo, AJs, 66–99, KQs). At ~30 bb, mix small 3-bet and jam versus late opens, but avoid bloating pots out of position without a plan.
  • Cold calls: mostly from blinds and mostly suited (Axs, KQs/KJs, QJs, JTs, T9s). Avoid dominated offsuit broadways versus early opens.
  • Shove candidates by seat (no antes quirks assumed, average field):
HJ/CO: 22–55 jam less, prefer fold or flat; jam 66–99, AQo/AJs+ versus loose opens.
BTN: widen jams versus blinds who overfold – add A2s–A5s, KJs, QJs, some KQo at 20–25 bb.
SB: strong jam or raise-call with AJo+, 77+; defend suited broadways by limp-jam line versus aggressive BBs.
BB: call wide suited, 3-bet jam linear versus small late opens.

📈 Postflop with 20–30 bb

  • Top pair good kicker: two streets for value on safe runouts. Avoid thin river bets out of position into strong ranges.
  • One pair marginal: pot control. Check more out of position, especially multiway. Fold to big polar river bets.
  • Draws: prefer semi-bluff jam with equity and fold equity rather than flatting to awkward stacks.

🧮 Push or 3-bet Jam

  • 20–22 bb: bias to jam versus late opens with AQo, AJs, KQs, 66–99. You deny equity and avoid postflop in bloated pots.
  • 26–30 bb: versus BTN/CO opens, mix non-all-in 3-bets with QQ–JJ, AQs, sometimes AKo; keep jams for AQo, 99, AJs when opener will call too wide or 4-bet rarely.

🧯 Bubble and Pay-Jumps

  • Short stack pressure: shove wider on the button and SB when stacks behind you cover but are risk-averse.
  • Covered by big stacks: tighten calling ranges, keep your fold equity intact for better spots.

6 Quick Rules

  • Stable 2–2.2 bb open size from every seat.
  • Jam cleanly at 20–25 bb; mix small 3-bets at 28–30 bb versus late opens.
  • Prefer suited calls; avoid dominated offsuit broadways versus early.
  • Value two streets with top pair, control pots with marginal pairs.
  • Turn good draws into pressure; do not bleed by flatting bad SPRs.
  • Respect ICM near bubbles; steal more as the opener, call tighter as the caller.
